We specialise in PPF, new car protection and ceramic coating for owners who want to keep new, nearly new and well-kept cars in better shape from the start. Paint correction and detailing still matter, but they support the protection work rather than driving the whole business.
I’m Tony, the owner of Bear’s Detailing.
My route into detailing was not the usual “I’ve always loved cars” story. I started out as an apprentice technician at a Mercedes-Benz dealership, thinking mechanics would be my future, but it did not take long to realise it was not for me. What suited me far better was the hands on side of the trade. The side that relies on skill, patience and precision.
That led me into automotive refinishing, where I spent more than six years as a prepper, spray painter and polisher. That time gave me a strong understanding of paintwork, how it behaves, where its limits are, and what it takes to get a finish right.
Then the travel bug hit. I sold my MK2 Golf GTI, which was my pride and joy at the time, and headed off. Over the next few years I took on all sorts of work, from spray painting mining trucks to flipping burgers. Somewhere along the way I met my better half in New Zealand, snowboarded badly in France, and eventually ended up in Bristol after what was meant to be a weekend trip.
Back in the motor trade, I spent a few years machine polishing cars at Portbury Docks on a large scale. It was great experience, but I wanted more than just a job. I wanted to build something of my own.
Bear’s Detailing came from that background. Not from chasing volume, and not from jumping on a trend, but from years spent working with paintwork and wanting to offer a higher standard of care and protection.
We moved into our studio in Nailsea in 2021, and since then Bear’s has grown into a trusted place for owners who want straight advice, careful workmanship, and protection that holds up in the real world.
Whether it’s paint correction, ceramic coating or PPF, the aim is the same. Do the job well, treat the car with care, and give people something that lasts.
Most clients come to Bear’s for one of three reasons:
They have a new car and want it sorted from day one.
They are fed up with stone chips and want proper front-end or full coverage PPF.
They have a well-kept car and want easier upkeep, better gloss and sensible long-term protection.
You are not dealing with a conveyor belt studio or a one-size-fits-all package list.
The advice is based on the car, how it is used and what level of finish and protection actually makes sense. That is why a lot of our work comes from owners who have spent time looking around and want somewhere that feels careful, experienced and straightforward.
Bear’s is best suited to owners of new, nearly new and well-kept cars who value neat work, realistic advice and long-term condition over quick fixes.
